ShraePoint Tutorials > SharePoint 2010 Enterprise vs SharePoint 2010 Standard Microsoft Part code and diffrence
This tutorial aims to clear confusion created by Microsoft as it does not have part code for its SharePoint Enterprise version partcode unlike 2007 version where SharePoint 2007 Standard and SharePoint 2007 Enterprise were having diffrent part codes (SKU).
Microsoft in his new price list has part code 76P-01199 which is actually the fast moving NL (no level) part code in Microsoft Paper license price list. One gets themself confused when they dont find diffrent part code or SharePoint 2010 Enterprise version at all in price list.
the trick here is it is only having one product Standard and while installation when you use your key (license key) based on it, it will enable or configure or install features for the version you intend to use. This mean if you use same ISO file as SharePoint Standard 2010 available at this download site which also confirms that it has single version of download file for both SharePoint Standard and SharePoint Enterprise Version.
So now that you know SharePoint 2010 Server is the same download for Standard & Enterprise, and For Internet Sites Standard & Enterprise. So the key diffrenciator is the volume license key you install.
Now some more clarification best of my knowledge for CAL usage in SharePoint 2010.
CAL Type
(Standard), SharePoint installation works as SharePoint Standard with your standard CAL license.
(Enterprise CAL) : The Enterprise cal only works if Standard and Enterprise CALs have been purchased.
You should note that Enterprise CAL does not include the Standard CAL; it requires the Standard CAL, so to use the Enterprise Setup Key when you have only licensed Standard CAL.
important note: If you install your SharePoint with Enterprise Key, you will not have any option to downgrade it to Standard, the only option will be to re-install it completely.
